Day 10 - Five Things! The five things are totally up to you.

So, I’ve been having a think about this challenge, and I’ve decided to list five ways being part of the Supernatural fandom has enhanced my life

1. Being in the fandom has enabled me to release my inner nerd. She’s always been there, but in the majority of my social interactions, she didn’t get out much. But now, when I go to a convention or hang out with my fandom buddies, she’s right there – out and proud!

2. Being in the fandom has given me the confidence and inspiration to resurrect my love of creative writing. In 2010 when I joined the fandom, I’d barely written a thing for years. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I had no readership and no inspiration. As of last week, I had over one thousand Supernatural fanfics and drabbles posted at my Fanfiction.net account. I’ve received such wonderful positive feedback on my writing, every word has been a pleasure!

3. I spend a lot of my time drawing pictures of animals, and previously I always shied away from drawing people because I never considered that I was very good at it. Being in the fandom gave me the confidence to go outside of my comfort zone and start to try drawing pastel character portraits. I’m not saying I’m the best fan artist on earth by a long shot, but I’ve developed my ability to draw these portraits to the degree that I’m not embarrassed to put them in front of the actors for autographing!

4. Being in the fandom also inspired me to learn to make digital art. It was a medium I’d never tried before, and never had any interest in trying before. I’m so glad I made the leap of faith, thanks to the inspiration of the fandom!

5. Before I joined the fandom I was pretty well travelled, but joining the fandom gave me the opportunity to get involved in conventions, and meet so many great friends from all over the world along the way. I’ve attended conventions here in the UK, as well as in Italy and Paris. This year, I’ll be attending one in Germany too. Catching up with my international band of friends at these brilliant events all over Europe, is one of the very best of the fabulous gifts the fandom has given me!
