It's been a busy couple of days, so I've got a bit behind on this!

December 21 → your favorite websites this year

I haven't really been visiting any significantly different websites this year as previous years, so nothing really exciting to report here, so my favourite, most visited websites this year have been:

www.facebook.com
www.livejournal.com
www.dreamwidth.org
www.instagram.com
www.picmonkey.com
www.amazon.co.uk
www.youtube.com
www.fanfiction.net
www.archiveofourown.org
www.supernaturalwiki.com

In addition to the above, I spend a lot of time on various Facebook pages, mainly ones that focus on Jensen and rabbits.  Honestly, if someone started up a Facebook page that focussed on Jensen AND rabbits, I'd probably spend my entire life on it!!

December 22 → new items you’ve added to collections this year

I have only made one addition to my Funko minis collection  this year, abnd that was an adorable little Han Solo from my good buddy sasha_dragon for my birthday.  Han had the dubious pleasure of meeting my other minis a few weeks later, and you can see the outcome here at spn_on_parade

You voted and we listened!

The most votes for our Christmas tree topper went to winged!Cas, and so ... here he is!   :)

Mr D and I are in the process of setting up the Christmas tree, and we have a quandary, so I am seeking the wise counsel of my dearest F/listies.

We always have a specific angel - namely Castiel - on top our tree, but we can't decide, so we're asking you to vote on which Castiel should top our tree this year!

You have three hours!

Here are your choices:

Mini Classic Castiel
Mini Winged Castiel
Teeny Weeny Castiel
Mystery Mini Castiel
Mini French Mistake MIsha (who counts as an angel for this purpose)
Mini Steve Castiel (see above)

Your opinion matters!!!

So, we thought 2020 was bad, then 2021 stepped up to the plate. In some ways it was a little better than 2020, and in other ways it was profoundly worse.

The Supernatural fandom, and fandom in general was dealt an irretrievable blow in April 2021 when we lost [livejournal.com profile] jj1564.  The enthusiasm, friendship and joy that she brought to the fandom and to her friends is sorely missed and will never be forgotten.

But this post is not here to dwell on the negatives, I’m only going to focus on the fandom positives of the year. So, here goes…

Yesterday was a six-hour mini GISH event, and I decided, after the intensity and emotion of the last few weeks, that a little bit of light relief was maybe just what the doctor ordered!

So, a little ragtag band of us comprised of two of my JIB buddies and [livejournal.com profile] blackrabbit42 were merged with five delightful german ladies, and we sallied forth and GISHed our little hearts our for six hours.  Now the event ran from 11 am - 5 pm Pacific time, which meant it ran from 7pm - 1 am here in the UK, and I can honestly say it's one of the first times in my life I was painting my face and playing with my Funko Pop minis at midnight.  But, hey-ho, it's all part of Life's great tapestry, right?

Here's Jensen and me mentally preparing ourself for the event!

Overall, I managed to complete four items, and here they are:

I met with [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal today at the Golden Lion pub in - of all places - Winchester.

We chose the location because this was a favourite haunt of mine, MIlly's and [livejournal.com profile] jj1564's and we frequently traumatised the place by staging mini adventures for [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade there.

This visit was different, and difficult, but very much needed.  There was a lot of laughter, a lot of tears and a lot of remiscing about our dearest friend, June.  Oh, and there were minis.

MIlly's adorable hubby Steve joined us and was entirely unfazed by the sight of two grown women playing silly buggers with Funko Pop minis!

In keeping with our previous visits to the Golden Lion, we decided not to raise a glass to JJ's memory.

We raised a mini instead!

Here are the mugshots of the day! )

Finally, my little plastic peeps have their own home; a personal place of residence!

When I got my first Funko Pop Sam and Dean, they lived on my bedside table.   Then Castiel joined, followed by home-made Bobby and Baby.

Eventually, they outgrew my bedside table and I had to move them to the office windowsill.  More minis joined the throng and they outgrew the windowsill.  Over the intervening years, as their numbers have continued to increase (not sure if it qualifies as an invasion or an infestation), they have at various times lived on the table nest, the sideboard, the coffee table and the dining table.

But wherever they have been, they have never had a place to call their own.

Until now.

So, 2020. What can you say? Well, nothing polite, that’s for sure.

As for everyone, the year panned out to be one great big steaming cowpat. With all the Covid chaos, fires, floods, plagues of locusts, Brexshit, and to top it all, the end of Supernatural.

But this post is not here to dwell on the negatives (if I did, I’d be breaching the Lj word limit, no doubt), I’m only going to focus on the fandom positives of the year. So, here goes…

I managed to write more fandom words this year than last year. Last year’s word count was quite low, because of the studying I was doing early in 2019 (27,003). I was aiming to be up to about the 30,000 this year, but inspiration has been a little hard to come by, and in the end I finished up on 27,690. So, yes, a bit disappointing, but more than last year so we’ll call it a win anyway!

And for something a little different today (with the emphasis on little), here's a little Dean-centric fun over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade

Certain members of my brood decided to kick off their Christmas celebrations...: spn_on_parade — LiveJournal

Come join in the Christmas fun at [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade.  Make a wish and our mini boys will grant it for you!

To console myself  with the impending end of our show, I decided to treat myself to another custom Spn funko.
And so,  yesterday this adorable little dude entered my life!

Those of you who are visitors of spn[livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade will be familiar with 'Cooking with Crowley' whereby mini Crowley (Funko Pop Crowley) regularly attempts to create culinary masterpieces despite the interference and shenanigans of his Funko cohorts, mini Dean, mini Sam et al.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] cuddyclothes who is, by her own admission, a mini Crowley fan, commissioned me to make her a 'Cooking with Crowley' icon, showing Crowley being his usual charming self.

I was happy to oblige (so happy, in fact, I made two!)

Day 3 - Pimp your favourite communities, fests and challenges.  Leave  comment in the post saying you did it.  Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

[livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen

This is an anonymous, prompt-based fanworks exchange challenge which runs every summer on Livejournal, and always attracts a huge number of participants.  There are a lot of challenges within the Supernatural fandom which focus on slash fiction and art and produce some great works.  These represent probably the majority of fanworks within the fandom.

Summergen, however, is different because it focusses solely on gen fiction and art.  Every year it produces a truly amazing array of gen fanworks; hurt/comfort, crack, angst, drama ... it runs the whole gamut of fan creativity and the standard of work it produces really is top drawer.  I've taken part for the last six years as an author, and it's always been a fandom highlight of my Summer.

[livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang

This is another great challenge, and one I always look forward to participating in. I always join Reversebang as an artist, and it has really inspired me to stretch may artistic skills over the last few years.  This one, again, produces a very high calibre of fanworks, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

[livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel

Okay, no list of my favourite online spaces would be complete without BigPretzel!

The nature of Supernatural lends itself beautifully to angst and drama and darkness and so, quite understandably, the Supernatural fandom is full of magnificent fanfictions which focus on the angsty, dark side of the show.

BigPretzel's raison d'etre, however, is to redress the balance and celebrate 'the sunnier side of Supernatural'.  I've described this community many times as my spiritual home on Livejournal, and I am proud to be the current owner  and maintainerof this wonderful community which has been running for almost eight years.

The comm welcomes all sorts of fanworks that are lighthearted, funny, cracky, fluffy or generally sweet.  We have drabble challenges, mini bangs, fic exchanges and all manner of fun and frolics, come on over and take a look!

[livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade

This is another community on Livejournal that I co-mod and that is very dear to my heart.

The Parade started out of very simple beginnings: three ladies, a lot of Pop Funko dolls and a healthy disregard for social norms.

In 2014, I and a couple of friends had been making little comic strips with our Funkos (otherwise known as 'minis') just to amuse each other, and we decided to start up an online community where we could keep our works in one place.  Plus we thought if we could make a couple of people smile along the way, then everyone's a winner!

Since then, the community (which celebated its fifth birthday last year) has gained over 120 members who watch, and often join in the madness at this little bucket o' crazy.  With regular features such as Guess the Episode, Cooking with Crowley and a Caption Competition, the mini madness just keeps rolling on, making the Parade one of the cutest and friendliest corners of LiveJournal.

After the madness of 2018, I was expecting 2019 to be a much quieter, less busy year.

And of course, I was hopelessly, gloriously wrong about that!

There may not have been travels to Iceland and broken limbs to contend with, but there were six cons, European travels, lots of art, lots of writing and, yes, beautiful fandom madness!

Mr D and I had neighbours over last night.

We had a lovely evening of chat and wine and nibbles and laughter.  Our neighbours went home around midnight, and after quickly helping Mr D to load the dishwasher, I decided that I was ready for bed.

Mr D wasn't quite tired enough for bed, so decided he was going to chill out downstairs with a book for a little while and come up when he was ready.

I don't remember Mr D coming to bed - I was too pooped!

I got up first this morning, and when I came downstairs, this is the sight in our living room that met me ...

Just a typical morning in the Dizzo household ... )

December 22 → new items you’ve added to collections this year

The only collection of any note I have is my Funkos.  Over the years, I've also added plushies, and other small fandomish models.

I've got pretty much all of the Supernatural Funkos, and so I've found myself almost subconsciously branching out this year.

So my most recent acquisitions throughout 2019 have been:

Jan 2019 - Coach Dean Funko - was supposed to have been 2018 Xmas gift from Mr D, but he didn't turn up until Mid January!
April 2019 - Freddie Mercury Funko - a gorgeous birthday gift from lovely [livejournal.com profile] jj1564
May 2019 - Porg Bobblehead - actually bought for Mr D at MCM Comic Con, but he's still joined my Funko gang
July 2019 - Legolas and Aragorn Funkos and teeny weeny dalex from London Film and Comic Con
August 2019 - Spitfire Plushie from Imperial War Museum at Duxford
December 2019 - cute little plushie hellhound handmade by the incredibly talented [livejournal.com profile] herminekurotowa

Back in 2014, I said I only wanted Sam Dean and Castiel Funkos, and I'd be happy!!!!

Today was the day for a long-overdue meet up with [livejournal.com profile] jj1564 and [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal.

With various work commitments, social commitments and family commitments, getting us together recently has been like herding cats, but today it all came together and a great day was had by all - even the sun shone for us!

Of course, we did have certain other 'friends' joining us, and lowering the tone of the day, but such are the hazards of being a Supernatural fangirl ...

dizzojay: (Dean)
We're having a month of celebration over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade, because today we celebrate our fifth birthday!

Five years is a great run for any community on Livejournal, but we still tick along nicely, documenting the adventures - or possibly misadventures - of our ever-growing population of little Pop Funko peeps.  I co-mod with [livejournal.com profile] jj1564 and [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal and I can thank our little community for bringing those two wonderful ladies into my life over the last five years, and for that alone, I love it!

Modding the community has tested my creativity and imagination to its limit, but has also brought me endless hours of joy and fun.

Over 100 people watch and take part in what is arguably the cutest and craziest corner of Livejournal on a regular basis and although, at its most basic level, we're just three grown women playing with a lot of plastic dolls, I've had people tell me the community has put smiles on their faces during tough times, and that truly is something to celebrate.

It's a little place of fun and whimsy, where quikiness and absurdity rule and adulting is actively discouraged.  Our mini-boys regularly indulge in such regular frolics as Cooking with Crowley, Guess the Episode and Teeny Weeny Halloweeny. It's silly, and it's infantile and I couldn't be more proud of it!

Come visit us - we don't bite!!

Just stopping by to wish my lovely US chums a happy 4th off July - through the medium of small plastic action figures ...

There are many and varied shenanigans afoot at [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade to celebrate a very special occasion ...

More news over at the community coming soon ...
